Cobra, Cleveland Drivers Ruled Nonconforming
The measurement known as "characteristic time" has caught two more drivers from major manufacturers with their USGA conformance down.
Characteristic time, or CT, is a measurement (in milliseconds) of how long the ball stays on the clubface at impact. It's the same measurement the USGA earlier this year found Nike Golf's Sumo Squared to be in excess of (Nike issued a voluntary recall).
Now two specific models/lofts of drivers, one each from Cobra Golf and Cleveland Golf, have also been ruled nonconforming by the USGA because of CT. The 9-degree-loft, righthanded version of the Cobra Golf HS9 F/ST driver, and the 10.5-degree, right-handed version of the Cleveland Golf HiBore XL driver, have both been found nonconforming.
Both companies have instituted voluntary testing programs under which golfers owning these specific models/lofts can return their drivers to the manufacturer to have them tested for conformance. Those that test nonconforming will be replaced.
